Andrew Lane began his professional career at the age of 21 after winning a position in the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC.  After leaving the Navy Band in 1986, he performed as a free-lance musician in the Washington DC area performing with the Kennedy Center Orchestra, Handel Festival Orchestra, National Gallery Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony and many other Washington area ensembles.

In 1989 he joined the horn section of the Florida Orchestra (Tampa), and in 1991 won a position with the Florida Symphony Orchestra in Orlando.

While in the Washington area, he learned brass instrument repair and custom modifications from Joel Bristor, a local master craftsman in Maryland. Since then he has been designing and experimenting with leadpipes, bells and first branch tapers, which has resulted in a custom horn design that was completed in 2014.
